You can use them dry but mix them with water and the colour turns into vibrant ink. The Inktense range consists of 72 colours which includes the Outliner pencil; a non-soluble pencil that can be used to block colour where needed. Once dry the colour is fixed and you can work over the top of it allowing layer upon layer of transparent colour. Derwent Inktense are a water-soluble permanent and bright colouring pencil. The Inktense pencil has a round stained ink blue barrel with colour dip end and metallic blue trim. You can use them dry but mix them with water and the colour turns into vibrant ink. As the colour is permanent Inktense may also be used for fabric and silk painting as well as printmaking.
