The material will not retain water which helps to prevent surface freezing. The plastic material used in the grip tape is an excellent insulator and helps to make sure your surface conforms to regulations requiring that handrail surfaces not be cold to the touch. This application ensures great rail coverage and provides for better adhesion than a horizontal application because allows for more surface area of the railing for the tape to adhere to. The following are three ways the tape can be applied. To further reduce the chances of the grip tape being cold, a base of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) is added to serve as an exceptional barrier from the cold. Tight Spiral Application The application does not require pre-cutting a length of the tape. This method is good to use for long railings that have no support or minimal support bars joining the through the middle; however, it will not adhere as well as a tight spiral application.
